Senior
America's Theme
for the New Millennium
"CELEBRATE
YOUR
TITLE"
by Dr. Al Mott
|
|
| On a
recent trip to the computer store, we picked up an inexpensive software title
called, "Unlocking the Bible Codes." You've probably heard of the
"Codes," since they have been the subject of some interesting TV
documentaries as well as a fascinating book by The Wall Street Journal reporter,
Michael Drosnin. So, as you might expect, I punched in the name, "Senior
America," and waited excitedly to see what, if anything, came out. |
Now, why
my interest in the Bible? Well, many of you know that I am an ordained minister,
but chose many years ago to use my pulpit for the advancement of America's
seniors. And I have been richly blessed in serving this cause. I have seen
America's seniors move ahead in health, finances, and spiritual growth, which of
course has led to tremendous community service. So, would the Bible, in
particular the Old Testament books of the Torah, have anything to say about us?
|
Up
popped a diagram that looked a little like a crossword puzzle, and a reference
to Exodus Chapter 31, Verses 10 and 11. Now, these verses refer to the Lord
giving instructions for preparations for service in the tabernacle, specifically
garments, and anointing oil. For a moment I couldn't see a connection. But then
I remembered that our ladies are famous for their beautiful gowns and elegant
accessories -- which they often wear when they are out performing in service to
their communities. Perhaps we are following in the footsteps of the sisters of
St. Vincent de Paul, whose lay order began as a group of wealthy French women
who visited the hospitals and orphanages of Paris.
It's
fun to ponder our role in the larger scheme, especially when you stop to
consider all that you have accomplished since you became associated with Senior
America. Whether you are a State Director, State contestant or Queen, staff
member, volunteer, National contestant or finalist, Nation or Cameo Showcase performer, Cameo Club member or Konze Prize winner, spouse, companion, family or
friend, you've got a lot to celebrate. That's why I want all of you to plan this
as the year that you "Celebrate Your Title."
|
As
Founder, (one of my titles) I am blessed with over 35 years (1971-2006) of
service to honor women who have reached the "Age of Elegance." I
created the Pageant to serve as a "rite" of passage to an age when we
can achieve our personal, individual dreams and aspirations. I am celebrating in
the new millennium my own achievements as someone who has seen first hand the
good that the Pageant has done in the lives of many people. I am privileged to
see what is done by the Cameo Club as individuals have dedicated themselves to
making life better for others. I have seen the joy the Konze Prize has done in
the lives of all those who have given and those who have received.
|
What I
have been able to observe first hand is that those who value the worth of their
title display unusual perseverance and strength to challenge all their
problems. I am firmly convinced that the Pageant is blessed on its historic
journey and is bigger than any one personality. It is a spiritual experience in
the lives of those who cherish its very existence. So to this end, I personally
want to tell you that your TITLE and service in Senior America is culminating
into a masterpiece that has not gone unnoticed.
| The new
year, 2006 AD, is an opportunity for us to stop and be grateful for the enormous
success that we have achieved, individually and collectively, since our humble
National beginnings in 1980. There is no one like us and there is no one like
you, and no one does exactly what you do, the way you do it. In other words,
your life, your unique way of doing your thing, is worth celebrating. You could
hold on to your talent, time and energy and decide not to risk sharing |
yourself
with someone else, but you choose to defy the odds and challenge the fear. You
are a Senior American and there is no one like you.
So now
in this new millennium, this new century, this new year, in celebration of this
new you, I ask you to Celebrate Your Title with us at our National Pageant at
the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino & in Las Vegas, NV during Pageant Week from November
6th through the 12th, 2006.
