Linda Rae wrote: I was born in Weirton, WV on October 10, 1939, to my unwed mother who loved me so much she asked her parents to care for me.
With my grandparents, I received all the love and opportunities there were. I also had the advantage of several aunts and uncles who doted on me. From a very young age, they made me aware of the importance of the EDUCATION which would open my eyes to encompass and be knowledgeable of the world around me.
From my grandparents, I learned to plant a garden, can vegetables, kill, clean, and cut up a chicken for Sunday dinner, (grandpa was a butcher), half sole shoes, change the washer in a faucet and wire a three-way switch, plus, cook, clean, wash and iron.
In the school plays, I always had the lead, sang in a girl's ensemble, was editor
of our yearbook, placed first in a district math competition, played trumpet in the marching band and French horn during concert season along with playing girl's basketball.
I graduated 2nd in my class as Salutatorian and was given a full scholarship to the Washington School of Nursing.
I fell in love, married and started our family of 3 children of whom I am very proud.
At the age of 30, I took a state loan and went to college. Within 3 years, I received my Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, my Masters in Elementary Education and a Reading Specialist Degree.
I have fulfilled my ambitions to be an educator because I knew I could and would make a difference. Since then I have touched thousands of lives, not only as an individual, but as a teacher, writer, and organizer.
I treasure the life the Lord has given me. It's made me who I am today. He showed me there WAS a purpose for me to be born.
