CONGRATULATIONS TO MYA LAKE-REYES, MS. NEVADA Senior America 2008! THANKS TO STATE DIRECTOR CHARLIE CHRISTY and MARY RICHARD and the NEVADA CAMEO CLUB, AND SPONSOR Suncoast Casino Hotel, Las Vegas, NV FOR A WONDERFUL and ELEGANT PAGEANT!

Mya moved to Las Vegas nearly 40 years ago when the city was still a small town and she knew right away this was the place she wanted to call home.

She entered the journalism field as a reporter for the local CBS affiliate while attending University of Las Vegas Nevada. She majored in French literature, as she had a desire to travel the world and had always been enamored with the French language. After earning her bachelor’s degree (and graduating magna cum laude), Mya moved to Paris, France and accepted a position at UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, as a public relations executive. While in Paris, she also started her own line of cosmetics and built a global client list from South America to Africa.

Mya met her future husband there, and traveled with him to Venezuela when he relocated for a job opportunity. They tied the knot in Caracas and later returned to Rimini, Italy, where their daughter Mya Valentina was born. Two years later, their second child Mario Dmitri was born in Venice, and soon after their love of travel found them working and living in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

After 9 years in Europe, Mya returned to Las Vegas where she published Las Vegas KIDZ Magazine and produced the KidzMania family expo for 12 years.

Her next career move was into the hospitality industry where she worked as a sales and marketing director for the MGM Grand Hotel. She is currently employed as Director of Diversity Marketing for the world’s largest convention bureau, the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority. In her current position, she is responsible for generating visitation to the Entertainment Capital of the World by business and leisure travelers.

Mya is a member of Toastmasters International, a Certified Meeting Professional and a Certified Trainer in the world renowned Steven Covey “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” professional development program.

She has a love for foreign languages and speaks fluent Spanish, Italian and French. She has also studied Arabic. She enjoys public speaking and conducts workshops and presentations on Las Vegas to travel agents, tour operators, airlines and meeting planners, both domestically and internationally.

She founded YES, the Young Entrepreneurs Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of at-risk youth by empowering them with entrepreneurial and communications skills. Her other volunteer work includes Moms Who Care, Las Vegas Academy of Hospitality & Tourism, Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas and An Income of Her Own, all of which are committed to enhancing the lives of our youth.

Mya is dedicated to improving the nutrition and physical fitness of her family and friends. One of the many activities she and her husband Ron participate in on a regular basis is Salsa dancing and they’ve performed the exciting Latin moves on dance floors from Spain to Cuba. She says, “If we all incorporate moderate dietary and exercise changes into our daily schedules, 60 will become the new 25!” And she plans to use her position as Ms. Senior Nevada to share that message with everyone she meets. ~

The Ms. Senior America philosophy is based upon the belief that seniors are the foundation of America, and our most valuable treasure. It is upon their knowledge, experience and resources that the younger generation has the opportunity to build a better society.
