CONGRATULATIONS to the beautiful and energetic, BARBARA TRAVIS, Ms. Louisiana Senior America 2010! We wish Barbara the Best of Luck in the National Pageant.

Barbara Travis has maintained a life-long love/business/cultural affair with Louisiana and the City of New Orleans, in particular, where she has actively supported retail, international trade and economic development projects for many years. One of her greatest joys is interaction with the business sector and serving as a mentor for international business graduate students.

Her love of dance began in junior high school with lessons in ballet, jazz and tap dancing; then continued informally through high school and college where she used her dance and modeling skills to enter scholarship pageants that helped defray tuition and other school expenses. She was formally trained at John Robert Powers Modeling School in Dallas, Texas.

After college graduation, she taught modeling as a sideline business and incorporated her innovative instructional techniques into the merchandising and marketing programs for two universities. She received statewide, regional and national recognition for her work with college students in articles published in Mississippi Magazine; Seventeen magazine; US magazine; the Memphis Commericial Appeal; the Clarion Ledger; the Los Angeles Times and CBS's Today Show.

Barbara has enjoyed a long and successful career in the public relations, retail, and community and economic development industries while maintaining a private marketing consultation business. She is a certified economic developer with extensive experience in strategic planning, corporate and community marketing, leadership development and focus group research.

Extremely active in her community, Barbara serves on the Board of Directors for a local hospital, two chambers of commerce, the Salvation Army, and a professional women's association. She holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in English as well as numerous professional certifications that signify her achievements and honor her career accomplishments.

Barbara and husband Nick have two adult sons, one dog and four grand-dogs. For many years they enjoyed a fishing camp and vacation home in the Empire, Louisiana until it was totally wiped away by Hurricane Katrina. Five years later, after re-building the camp, they - along with their neighbors - are now left to deal with the community economic aftermath and on-going environmental repercussions of the horrendous, historic and unprecedented BP oil spill.
