Mary Ann Taibi was crowned Ms. Idaho Senior America April the 17th, 2010. After being associated with the Ms. Senior America Pageant for three years, she claimed her crown and accepted the honor of representing the senior women of Idaho for the coming year.
Her life began far away from Idaho in Rochester New York. She met her husband Sal in Kindergarten at P.S. #34 in Rochester, was educated in Rochester and graduated from John Marshall High school in June of 1955 in Rochester.
Then there was a change of scene and Mary Ann found herself in California where she took some paralegal courses at Pasadena City College. She married Sal in Southern California and they raised three children in Arcadia, California.
After they both retired, she and Sal moved to Northern Idaho and the Hayden Lake area. She had been a legal secretary with the state of California for twenty four years. Now she began her “happy ever after” life in this beautiful country setting.
Life was anything but dull and dreary for Mary Ann as she adjusted to her new home and society in Hayden Lake. She became a part of the Red Hot Mamas of Coeur d’Alene and enjoyed being a part of their performances as they danced to rock n’ roll in their very loud and outrageous outfits (You may have seen them at the inauguration of President Bush.). Thus she began her busy schedule of volunteering.
Mary Ann and Sal enjoy this retirement life style together. They are Charter Members with the Sons and Daughters of Italy, volunteering their services every year as Chefs for the Italian Festa, preparing their famous Italian Sausage and Meatballs Sandwiches and other specialties.
Yes, retirement means to Mary Ann, many joyful hours of volunteering with senior groups both in her church and the community. Entertaining is her forte’. Her ability to sing brings her many invitations to perform even as vocalist for “A Taste of Jazz” , a local band and with the Lake City Tappers.
Mary Ann began her singing career on her father’s knee. He taught her all the old songs as they harmonized together. She learned the lyrics without ever seeing a sheet of music. He would take her to the neighborhood saloon, sit her on a stool and she would harmonize with him and his singing buddies. There she learned a love of performing and an unbelievable number of songs, some still heard in our time.
Now in her spare time, she rehearses and learns new songs. She travels to visit her children and grandchildren and especially enjoys time with Sal. She includes many friends in her busy schedule and treasures each for the worth which she finds in them.
When ask her greatest accomplishments in life, she replies with pride and satisfaction in her voice, “My family and the wonderful relationship which I have with them.”

The Ms. Senior America Pageant is
the world's first and foremost pageant to emphasize and give honor to
women who have reached the "Age of Elegance." It is a search
for the gracious lady who best exemplifies the dignity, maturity and
inner beauty of all senior Americans. The Ms. Senior America philosophy
is based upon the belief that seniors are the foundation of America, and our
most valuable treasure. It is upon their knowledge, experience and
resources that the younger generation has the opportunity to build a
better society.
