CONGRATULATIONS!, JOYCE KEATING, Ms Connecticut Senior America 2007 and Thank You Pauline Martin for another beautiful pageant.

As a young girl growing up in the South end of Hartford,CT, in a three family tenement, I had a burning desire. Someday I would have a nice home with a yard, a wonderful
family, and even open my own business. "Onward and Upward" was my motto, and with
hard work and determination, my dreams were realized!
By 1962, I had my own home, a husband and a beautiful baby girl and wanted to develop
real estate. Perseverance and goal setting paid off, and in 1976, I opened my own
company in Enfield, CT. Onward I marched, and upward I looked, and by 1982, I was
developing the very first office condominium complex in my community of Enfield, Ct.
That year I was also general contracting a residential sub-division of homes. Being very
active in the North Central CT Board of Realtors, I was chosen to be Chairperson of the
Professional Standards Committee, a body that governs and decides cases involving
Realtor's principles and practices. My peers put their trust in our decisions, and I was
honored to lead the Committee.
My career and community involvement brought me to
join the North Central CT Chamber of Commerce, an organization in which I have served
as a Director for over 20 years, chairing many fund-raising events held to be able to give
local scholarships and support other worthy causes.
In 1987, I was chosen to be the first
businesswoman in Enfield, CT to be invited to join Rotary International, an honor so
important in my life, I have completed 20 years of perfect attendance at our weekly
meetings (I have attended meetings all over the world). I have held office in my Enfield
Rotary Club, and I was given a Paul Harris Fellow award.
Throughout the years, monies
from the Rotary Foundation have helped to eradicate polio in third world countries, and I
am proud to have contributed to that cause. I sit on the Asnuntuck Community College
Foundation Board and have chaired and participated in several community fund-raising
events including dancing and acting in our annual "Murder Mystery" performance.
Working with the Johnson Memorial Health Network (I am also a Board Member)
throughout the years chairing several events, has been very gratifying, as the funds raised
have helped expand the hospital and update our equipment to state-of-the-art.
Going into my "fourth" quarter, I still hope to achieve many touchdowns! I look forward
to an exciting, healthful, and rewarding future. After winning seven first places at the
"Dancing Ala Carte" Ballroom competition in MA, I look forward to continuing to forge
"Onward and Upward"!

The Ms. Senior America Pageant is
the world's first and foremost pageant to emphasize and give honor to
women who have reached the "Age of Elegance." It is a search
for the gracious lady who best exemplifies the dignity, maturity and
inner beauty of all senior Americans. The Ms. Senior America philosophy
is based upon the belief that seniors are the foundation of America, and
our most valuable treasure. It is upon their knowledge, experience and
resources that the younger generation has the opportunity to build a
better society.
