Ms. Edwina Chappell, Ms. Senior Trussville, won the 22nd annual Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant held at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama, on March 29, 2008. She was among 14 beautiful senior ladies who participated in talent, interview, poise, and philosophy of life. Edwina won the judges over with her vocal presentation entitled, “Stand By Your Man.”
Edwina makes her home with her husband Frank, in Sterrett, Alabama, where they own their own business. Edwina is the mother of 5 and grandmother of 9.
She was hired by Real People Modeling Agency for runway and character modeling and had to drop out due to cancer. She has modeled in many fashion shows on a volunteer basis as well.
Edwina has been active with the Oncology Orthopedic Support Group of the University of Alabama, in Birmingham for the past twelve years. This volunteer opportunity includes one on one counseling and support, not only for new patients, but for those who have lost loved ones as well.
Ms. Senior Alabama loves to travel and has been to numerous countries from Canada to the Bahamas; and many states within the U.S. including two of her favorites, Alaska and Hawaii.
Whether designing fashions or costumes for pageants, volunteering to sing and entertain in nursing homes and other community venues, or working in the carpet business, Edwina never meets a stranger. Her latest project involves writing a book about all the experiences before and after the death of her daughter; because she believes the story needs to be told.
Since reaching the age of 60, Edwina says things have not changed much, she just says that she loves to get up each day with “joy and a thankful heart for family, wonderful friends, and the many gifts of life.” After surviving cancer and the loss of her daughter, it is her desire to help others who may be going through the same situations, and her philosophy of life says it best, “At the end of my journey, I hope it can be said that I have made a difference.”

The Ms. Senior America Pageant is
the world's first and foremost pageant to emphasize and give honor to
women who have reached the "Age of Elegance." It is a search
for the gracious lady who best exemplifies the dignity, maturity and
inner beauty of all senior Americans. The Ms. Senior America philosophy
is based upon the belief that seniors are the foundation of America, and
our most valuable treasure. It is upon their knowledge, experience and
resources that the younger generation has the opportunity to build a
better society.
